“Linking
African Countries to Scale up Health Research on the Continent”
Health
Research is essential for effective, efficient, equitable and sustainable national
health systems. Although Africa is in the midst of a health
crisis, most African countries allocate less than 0.3 percent of their already
meagre health budgets towards research into health issues. The African Health
Research Forum (AfHRF) was created to encourage capacity
building in this regard.
The
main objective of the African Health Research Forum is to
'position health research as an integral tool for development'.
Specific
Objectives:
-
Enhance
political support in recognition of health research as an essential tool
for development and poverty reduction in Africa
- Enhance investment in
health research in Africa
- Strengthen capacity
building for research production, dissemination and application
- Promote translation
of research findings into health actions utilizing best available evidence.
